Wow. Go Stephenie Meyer

Wow. Was just reading this article on YAHOO! about the Forbes list for top Celebrity Earners.

Stephenie Meyer? Number 26, with $50 Million for the last year. $50 MILLION in a YEAR.

That is awe-inspiring for an author.

Wow. That's insane. Does that mean her agent made about 7.5 million? (I think that's 15%. I know sometimes it differs for foreign/movie rights, but I am good with words, not numbers. So my math may be way off.)

probably in the ball park. I'm thinking a huge chunk is probably movie $, and the agent usually gets 10% (the film agent gets the other 10%).

Plus her agent probably splits a portion with the agency (Writer's House, I believe).

And I'm wondering how the licensed properties work-- like Twilight notebooks or pens or whatever.

But her agent definitely made millions by selling twilght.

I know my agent gets 15% of everything she negotiates. So, with a merchandising deal, she gets 15% of it. Not sure if WH has a merchandising agent...like a foreign rights agent.

If Steph made $50 million in a year, what do you think J.K. has raked in this last decade? WOW.

OMG, I had no idea she was making that much. I mean, I knew it was a lot, but geez! She made more than Angelina Jolie according to that article! That's plain crazy.

Her five titles (including The Host) accounted for something like 25% of all books sold last year, if memory serves. Yikes!

Leaving aside the enormity of SM making that list (by making THAT MUCH MONEY), when I first glanced at your post I thought you were writing about the top Celebrity FARMERS and was wondering how on earth Stephenie Meyer manages to farm while writing fifty million dollars worth of books.
